Wow, that had to be the worst concert I’ve ever been to. I had high hopes going into it and was severely let down. Granted, a friend of theirs died yesterday, but did they really need to play such a short set with so many acoustic songs? I hate Mr. Jones done all soft and acoustic; it’s fine to do that soft intro that they seem to do live, but this version was just bad. Also, they only played like… two songs with any level of energy in them. The show was starting to get a little better as they played there last song. Fucking lame.
Also, PNC Bank Arts Center has a horrible PA system. Or maybe just the way the building is shaped sucks… Shit was all echoing and I couldn’t understand a word Adam said when he was talking.
Definitely not going to see another Counting Crows show. I’ll stick to the CDs.

i’m not a crazy, rabid CC fan by any means, but I’ve seen them a handful of times live. i keep going back because they are so damn good live. there’s nothing else to say about it. i’ve never been to the holmdel center…but i’d give ‘em another chance somewhere else — and not double-billed.
every time i’ve seen them, it’s been a great mix of acoustic and rock-the-house stuff. from what i just read on the cc.com site, sounds like you just caught them on an ‘interesting’ night. perhaps not the best for a virgin live-CC person, but still part of the whole crows ‘thing.’ consider yourself initiated, if not satisfied…
I’ve heard their live stuff before (from their live albums) and I was sorta expecting that sort of performance. However, dues to the circumstances of that evening, I guess they changed their normal set to the set they did.
It turned me off so badly to counting crows, whenever I hear them I can’t stand to listen. I don’t know if I would risk going to another show any time soon. I really was that disappointed.
I had been looking forward to the show all summer, which made me even more let down. Oh well.
