War with Iraq…
Well, it has happened. The United States has attacked Iraq.
Over the past week, I’ve heard it all. I’ve heard the anti-war people crying out for peace, the pro-war people crying out for war, the neutral people who just don’t give a shit because they think it doesn’t affect them, and the other numerous views that are shared throughout the world.
Anti-war people would call the pro-war people terrorists, supporters of a murderer and countless other names. Pro-war people call the anti-war people hippies or terrorists or even un-American/anti-American.
I’ve heard the “if you’re not happy here, then leave the country” line countless times. People fail to realize that protesting a war or a president is actually one of the MOST patriotic things to do. The mayor of Vermont even says, “In a country
devoted to the freedom of debate and dissent, it is every citizen’s patriotic duty to speak out…”
“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it.”–Abraham Lincoln.
It doesn’t suprise me that some of the first things that they wanted to do in Iraq was secure the oilfields so they aren’t burned. Hmm, if we didn’t want their oil, then why is that such a priority?
How does the killing of people bring about peace?
What the HELL provoked Bush to want to attack Iraq? Could it be that daddy’s hand is up his ass?
Violence does not result in peace. It never has… Sure, violence may cause a period of neutrality, but peace? Nope. Never has, never will. Many European countries have done the right thing and not agreed with the war and not helped with the effort. Even Canada, our neighbor, refused to help because the United Nations DOES NOT APPROVE of this war. If they did, a lot of those European countries that aren’t helping the U.S. would be helping. That just goes to show how powerful and influential the U.N. is. If only the U.S. would listen to the rest of the world…
